The Med at last

I decided to make a run for the coast, having spent a lovely day in the Soca Valley in Slovenia. I ended up in Krk, which is the largest Croatian island, and I stayed there 3 nights.. It was quite nice but the weather has been rubbish for several days.

First view of the med and it is cold and grey

Krk town is a busy little place especially on Easter Sunday.

The square is 'quite nice'

Puerto Banus it is not!

But the lads were out fishing, with a spear, for octopus! The guy in blue has spotted the one they caught earlier.

Krk harbour is big and relatively quiet.

When they join the EU I wonder if they will loose all their fishing industry....like we did.

Sunset is nice but not a patch on those in Cape Town....
It was quite nice staying in Krk but the local godsquad gave themselves the right to bang their churchbell at 06.30 every morning! And the peasant that drove his tiny boat powered by an unsilenced moped engine past the campingplatz at the crack'o sparrows every day, deserves an ASBO. 20 mins it took him every day. grr.

So I set off south, back to the mainland and down the coast. It was pxxxxing it down and there was a blustery gale blowing. The road near Crikvenica and roundabouts was bloody frightening. The road is carved out of a high cliff over the sea and in places the drop was hundreds of feet into the sea. Well alright but the carriageway is narrow, there is no verge and no barrier. Not at all safe and I would not recommend anybody to use it. OK the locals belt up and down and probably think nothing of it, but I wouldn't go there again. Sphincter Factor 8/10. Not very promising for a trip down the Dalmatian coast.

I was glad to get off that coastal route at Senj and head inland. The route goes through the mountains in the background and picks up the A1 autoroute heading south.

But one wet motorway looks just like another.
Heading for Split. Temp 10degC.

Arriving at my chosen campsite near Split it was thoroughly cold wet and miserable. And the reception wasn't open and there was no access to the internet. The following day the office opened at 08.00 and I found out that they had the cheek to charge 10Kuna (£1.25) for 15mins!!!! and it wasn't even broadband... No way was I paying for such a rip off.

But the coolest 'van on the site was this Kip. Brilliant piece of kit.....
But Split was cold wet and miserable so I moved on South.
End of post.
